Tuesday Spotlight: Serenity King

My goal when I first started writing was to self-publish and see how it worked before I tried to submit to Beautiful Trouble Publishing. Being familiar with the person you sort of get a feel of what they would be looking for in an author. I knew them as authors before they became publishers. I absolutely love their books! After working with them for several months I knew that BTP was a place that I wanted to be. They are tough in that they will comment on your story without trying to change your prose. The comments help, but don’t hurt the story. I like the fact that they are not afraid to say yes to a new author and no to an established author. They are tough but they are also fair. Not only that-their editors are just awesome. Seriously, in the few months that I have worked with them I have learned a great deal about my writing. They are so helpful. Each story that I submit I learn something new about my writing as well as what it will take to get me from being a “good” writer to being a “great” writer.

Earlier I said that they were tough, well, their toughness is what’s pushing me to be a great writer. Many people can write erotica but when there are stringent guidelines that must be followed by a publisher, you get to see just how good you are, by producing a great story even with the guidelines. There are things that BTP just will not allow in a story and for me, that’s what keeps me rooted and grounded in the values that I hold dear. It is so easy to do something that you don’t believe in just for the sake of publication; I don’t even have to contemplate doing something like that with BTP.
