I love doing research for my books. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I'll even do research on the tiniest details. For my paranormal romance Animal Attraction, I even checked to make sure there wasn't a real magazine out there called Paranormal Today, the magazine which the heroine writes for. Since Animal Attraction is set in Fairbanks, Alaska, I researched everything from the undergraduate programs available at the University of Alaska, where the hero is a professor, to what the city looks like and what the locals do in their free time. I also have a friend who lives in Alaska, so she sent me some photos, as well as gave me great insider info!
Because the werewolves in my book take on wolf form, I also did some research on real wolves, too. I wanted to be as accurate as I could in my descriptions of what their fur feels like to the touch, the types of sounds they make, even their body language, which are all important to the story.
While research is definitely fun because I get to learn so much about so many interesting things, it can also be a little distracting. Since I do almost all of it on the Internet, more often than not, I'll find myself clicking from link to link, going from one website to another, and before I know it, I've spent the whole morning doing research! And I usually end up reading stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the story! LOL!
